The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB

THURSDAY – AUGUST 18TH, 2011 — By Michael L. Brown

I recently received the email below (nearly 4 weeks ago), via the Contact Us Form on The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, and would appreciate other opinions.  Also — if you feel the same way as the person who sent it — please see my response to the email below, before crafting your response, as it might affect the way that you look at things concerning web design, and the inherent quality of websites in general.

Mr Brown,
I appreciate all the work you have put into this site.  I know that this is hard
work.  I must tell you however, that this site looks like it came from the mid
90′s.  The design is absolutely HORRIBLE.  No company or individuals in their
right mind would EVER pay to be listed on this site.  You REALLY need to
consider this.  Take a look around at similar sites on the net.  You need to get
into some multimedia/flash/HTML5.  Get some tools to help you out, so you dont
have to write all the code by hand. There are all kinds of FREE resources to
help out with this.  Also, consider getting some books on website design.  If
you have to, download some videos and help from the internet.  iTunes has a lot
of resources that would help you greatly, such as Podcasts, and maybe even a
class on iTunes U.  Again, I know and understand that you have worked hard on
this, but you need to do better.  Good luck with your endeavor.

MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S RESPONSE TO THE EMAIL FROM MR. SMITH

First of all, I do whole-heartedly appreciate that “Mr. Smith” took the time out of his (or her) busy day to send this email to us, via the Contact Form on the Hubsite.  — I REALLY HONESTLY DO!  — And I do really appreciate and respect Mr. Smith’s opinions on the matters that he (or she) has expressed.  However — I would have liked the opportunity to speak with you, Mr. Smith, and had the opportunity to create a dialog with you directly, so that I might have been able to enlighten you further, concerning my web development decisions on  The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and MAG-NET LOCAL Hubsites.  I might have been able to change your mind somewhat, and quite possibly you would have seen The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB (and web design in general) in a different light.  — And since I’ve been wanting to write a post on these associated topics for quite some time, I figured that the receipt of your email was a sure sign that the time to write it was upon me.

— With that said — In response to what Mr. Smith said in his email to us, I offer the following:

1. )  First of all, Mr. Smith, I don’t know if you were using Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or another type of web browser, when you viewed the site.  However, I know that Google Chrome (and probably some others) does not easily support the use of frames. — And I use frames A LOT in my design work on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and MAG-NET LOCAL.  Therefore — if you tried viewing the site using Google Chrome, or another web browser that doesn’t support frames, the site probably looked “REALLY SCREWED UP” when you stopped by the Hubsite for a visit.

— Now, one of course might argue that a professional web designer — (which I definitely am not, and have never claimed to be (but hope to be able to hire, one fine day)) — should design websites capable of being viewed on ANY web browser platform.  — However — I am of the opposite mind-set.  — I believe that A TRULY GOOD web browser should be able to easily and accurately display “commonly used page elements (on ANY website)”, regardless of whether or not the browser’s developers ”LIKE” or support a certain kind of design element or not.

— I know… I know… — I’ve read all of the critiques about frames, and how CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are so great, and how frames are supposedly so “Old Skool”. — However, a lot of people like using frames (myself amongst them), so if Google Chrome or other web browsing platforms choose not to support them… I believe that to be THEIR problem.  Nobody else’s.

Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox don’t have a problem with frames, or in presenting the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S Pages, as they were designed to be displayed.  Therefore, I would submit that any browser that doesn’t accurately display The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB or MAG-NET LOCAL Hubsites — or any other websites that utilize “Old Skool” frames in their designs —  is a “Sub-Standard Browser”, and people should be using something else.

(We should be expanding internet technology, not limiting it.)(Old features don’t need to be flushed down the toilet to make way for new features.  Browser developers simply need to take the time to figure out how to duplicate the old features within their new formats.  — And it’s not rocket science.  — It can be done. — It can be done easily… — So the browser developers just need to do it!)

Use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox (the industry’s leaders for good reason) when viewing the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB or MAG-NET LOCAL Hubsites… and you shouldn’t have a problem.

2.) Secondly — assuming that Mr. Smith “WAS” using Internet Explorer or Mozilla, and his browser “WAS” accurately displaying the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB when he paid us a visit — I can appreciate the fact that not everyone is going to be as “equally thrilled” about the way The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB looks.

The site is VERY COLORFUL and (like I said) uses a lot of “Framing” and a lot of bright and contrasting (but complimenting) colors.

In designing The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and it’s Geographic Off-Shoot — MAG-NET LOCAL Hubsites — I wanted to create a site design that was EXCITING and COLORFUL to look at, that would provide the perfect backdrop for equally exciting photographs and images — which I plan on adding VERY LIBERALLY to the site’s pages, in the way compelling photography, magazine covers, display ads, etc.

I wanted to infuse a “feel” to the pages of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB that was reminiscent of a “CARNIVAL”… or a “CIRCUS”… or a “CASINO”.  — Something that was “EXCITING” and befitting “The World’s New Gateway to the World of Magazines, Periodicals, and Media Online!” —Therefore, the dark blue background was deemed “OPTIMAL” — as it simply makes photographs and colors (and magazine covers) “POP OUT” from the page. — And with that said — light colors were used for general text, and bright (often fluorescent) colors were used for ”highlighted” text, to make the words easily readable against the dark blue background, but then equally exciting in their own right!  Of course, “if” the current version of the Hubsite (the “Pre-Launch Development Version” or “Prototype Version” of The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB — which is another issue about the site that I haven’t even raised yet) had had alot of photographs and images already on it, then your assessment of the site would have probably been much better, Mr. Smith.)

As for your statement that the site “looks like it came from the mid 90′s”, Mr. Smith… this simply means that I DID ACTUALLY ACHIEVE one of the biggest design aspects that I had set out to acheive.  I was shooting for a “RETRO” look and feel to the site, when I chose to adopt certain design elements in it’s construction — and based on your response — I was obviously successful in acheiving that.  So, thank you for your affirming response in those regards.

As to your statement that “the design is absolutely HORRIBLE” and “No company or individuals in their right mind would EVER pay to be listed on this site…” — That is your opinion, Mr. Smith… Everyone is entitled to one… And I respect yours, even though I whole-heartedly disagree with it.

You see, this is where it becomes difficult to quantify your assessment and suggestions for the site, Mr. Smith — and why it is so unfortunate that you did not choose to communicate “with me”, rather than ”to me” — and allow me the opportunity to not only explain the reasoning behind my design choices, but to also assess your actual level of expertise when it comes to “art” and “creative expression” — in addition to your apparent knowledge of the technological aspects of web design.  — Because then I would have been able to assign a more accurate and appropriate level of importance to your comments.

Because I have come across far too many ”web design experts” (in my travels on the web) that say — “Oh, you should be doing this” or “Oh, you should be doing that” — when it comes to designing one’s sites and web pages (as if there were a right way or wrong way, when it comes to artistic expression and design choices) — simply because they can see the obvious, which is whatever lacking in the latest technological “bells and whistles”, that one’s site might “suffer” from… but they all too often fall far too short in being able to appreciate what it is, and what it does have, and what the designer may have so meticulously put together, with the tools that he or she had available to them.

I mean — to say that a website is HORRIBLE means that 1.) either the color scheme clashes so badly that you can’t even bear to look at it… 2.) that the designer simply threw the work together so sloppily, and with such little effort and care, that it fails “horribly” in meeting the purposes of it’s intended design… or 3. ) it means that the person calling it HORRIBLE might simply be a technophile caught up in promoting themselves as being knowledgeable as to the technological aspects of web design, but that has little understanding and appreciation for the “artistic” and “creative” side of page design and site development.

Now, please folks… don’t anyone take this as me just picking on Mr. Smith because he called my work “absolutely HORRIBLE”, because that is not my intention or desire.  I’m not saying these things out of any sort of malice, or as an attempt to retaliate, or vent, about a criticism that was leveled against me.  I simply do not work that way.

My intention here is to “Educate”, not “Humiliate”.  — Like I said — Everybody sees things slightly differently (based on what they’ve learned about a specific subject) and will therefore have their own opinions based on their own personal perspectives, and what they believe.  And they are entitled to them.  — And I am merely here stating the logical facts (as I believe them to be — (i.e. “my opinions”), in regards to web design, and specifically in regards to the artistic nature of web design.  So please… don’t allow the importance of what I’m trying to relay to you, to get warped by simply brushing it off as a “rant”.  Because that is definitely not what it is… — Again… I am here to “Educate”, not “Humiliate”.

“HORRIBLE” is a strong word for anyone to use in describing ANY work of art or creative expression, and it often indicates a lacking of “art appreciation” in the person who uses it in such a context.  — Use of the phrase “absolutely HORRIBLE” is, of course, even stronger… so I definitely would have liked to have been able to ask you some additional questions, Mr. Smith… to further quantify your statements, so that I could have put it into a proper and accurate perspective, based on how knowledgeable I actually deemed you to be in the areas of web design — of which art and creative expression are often a commonly overlooked, but highly important component.

God knows there are lots of new techniques, features, and programming options that I would eventually like to add to the Hub’s design (that will have to wait until until we have positive cash flow, and funds to put towards them) — however — I hate when people generalize, and say your site needs to be more “Web 2.o”, or that you need to add “Flash” (ads and images that move), so that your site looks more technologically advanced, or whatever.  — As far as I’m concerned — It’s like telling Michelangelo, or Rembrandt, or Picasso, that he should be using a certain kind of brush, or a certain brand of canvas, when he paints!  — Because moreso than anything, the way that the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBsite looks… is a reflection of my own artistic preferences.  It’s not something that can be construed as being right or wrong.  It’s ARTISTIC EXPRESSION and so it is, what it is.  Some people are going to like it, and some people are going to hate it.  That’s just the way it is, and I can accept that.

3.) As for what I will be adding to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and MAG-NET LOCAL Hubsites in the future, as well as for  particular design choices I have made… I offer the following:

A.) COLOR SCHEME — I personally prefer the current color scheme.  However, I know that not everybody is necessarily going to like it or prefer it.  In response to that, my plan is to eventually create an option whereby users can choose between a number of different color schemes, and use whichever ones they like the most, when they come to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, or any of it’s MAG-NET LOCAL Hubsites.  It’s definitely something that’s going to take some hard work, but as soon as we can afford to begin implementing it, we’re going to do it.

B.)  FLASH — I know that everybody thinks Flash (images and pictures that move) is really cool.  However, I am not thrilled about the idea of using it on the Hub right now, because The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is a “Search Engine”… “A Media Portal”… “A HUBsite”.  — It’s purpose is not to provide “our own” content to our users.  It’s purpose is to provide links to OTHER websites, that we feel our users might be interested in, based on the fact that they are on a particular page of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB or a MAG-NET LOCAL Hubsite.  — So I want to be able to pack as many possibly relevent links of interest on a page, as I can possibly get.  — Flash Images on a page take up a lot of memory, and lessen the number of links and other page elements that I can put on a page, without severely degrading functionality and page load times.  — The question then becomes: What’s worse? — A page that has ads or pictures that DON’T MOVE… or a page that takes a long time to load?  Personally… I would prefer faster load times over pictures that move, any day.

C.) POPUPS — I HATE POPUPS!  I don’t care how much a particular advertiser might want to have their ad appear in a popup on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S pages… It’s never going to happen!  — You will NEVER be confronted by a Popup on The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB or MAG-NET LOCAL.  (at least not unless I get EXTREMELY DESPERATE for money! — It’s hard to say “never” when you’re about to end up on the street!   :)    )

D.) USER TRACKING and CLICK-THROUGH TRACKING — Personally, I dislike ALL of the user tracking that occurs on the internet.  Not that I have anything to hide… but simply because it seems so “Big Brother”, and so potentially invasive on individual rights of privacy.

So many websites think they have to track your every move on the web, just so they can constantly throw hyper-relevant ads in your path (or at least that’s how they justify it).  But, I don’t care what the industry experts say. — This is so unnecessary, and so smacking of “Big Brother” being able to monitor your every move on the web, that we’re not going to do ANY OF IT here on The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, or MAG-NET LOCAL.

— And if you become a paying advertiser on the Hub, and want to know how many users click on a paid listing or advertisement on the Hub, and go to your site via the paid listing or ad on the Hub, each month — you’re going to have to set up a distinct “Landing Page” that we can connect the link to, to be able to track the click throughs yourself.  Because — as “Old Skool” and “detrimental” as “The Experts” say it is, to NOT provide page analytics to advertisers — we’re not tracking them here on The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB or MAG-NET LOCAL.  — The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB values it’s user’s privacy much more than being able to tell advertisers how many users clicked on their links last month.  — There are other ways to count click-throughs, so we’ll just be relying on those instead.

Probably moreso than anything, The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is about “righting” certain things that have become commonplace on the internet… that are misconceptions that don’t necessarily work as good as “The Experts” say they work, or that are just downright “ethically wrong” in a free and open society.

For instance… in the offline advertising world, advertisers are happy with knowing that a certain number of copies of a newspaper or magazine were sold or distributed, and made it into the hands of potential customers.  But in the online world “click-through rates” have become often more important to advertisers, than anything else… and my response to this is  — Why?

— QUESTION: When did the mere appearance of an advertisement in a magazine or newspaper, fail to have value?  — ANSWER: It never has failed to have value.  Advertising value is inherent in the fact that whenever a reader sees an ad, they are being exposed to the advertiser’s brand and message, along with it’s entire line of products and services.  — And whether or not the reader acts on the ad “immediately” is of little consequence.

— Do advertisers in a magazine or website pay only when someone actually calls the phone number that the advertiser listed in their ad? — No… they don’t.  — And that’s because advertisers and everyone else understands that simply having one’s ad “seen” within the context and the pages of the magazine or newspaper, is enough to build brand recognition with the publication’s readers… so that when those readers might be in a position where they are in need of the advertiser’s products or services, they can recount having seen the advertiser’s brand name or advertising (somewhere) and then might be willing to consider them, when the advertiser is able to sell them something that they might want or need…

— So tell me again… — Why does that same logic NOT APPLY to the internet, and the pages of websites?

Pay-Per-Click advertising is just so…………………. “STUPID and POINTLESS!” ……………. that you’re just not going to be able to buy advertising that way, on The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB or MAG-NET LOCAL.   — Because we sell “Display Value on a Monthly, Weekly, Daily, or Hourly Basis” here on The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and MAG-NET LOCAL (much like the magazines and newspapers do)…    Each advertising position has a certain specific price, for a certain specific amount of time — regardless of click through rates… and rightly so.

Now, “Page Impressions” is a somewhat different story.  We’ll provide our advertisers with accurate data about how many visits a particular page on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB or MAG-NET LOCAL might be getting on a month-to-month basis, but we will not charge for advertising based on the number of page impressions a particular page might get.  For the most part — our advertising prices are VERY, VERY LOW in comparison to similar advertising elsewhere, and we’re content to “Leave Money on the Table” and pass “extraordinarily high value and savings” on to our advertisers whenever we can.

6/9/2011 – The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S “REGIONAL RESOURCES” Are Just About Ready to Roll!   7 comments

Michael L. BrownLink to The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB

6/9/2011

What’s New on The  MAG-NET MEDIA HUB?

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S “REGIONAL RESOURCES” Are Just About “Ready to Roll”!

Following the registration of our first print-based magazine — a regional lifestyle magazine entitled “Living Out East and On The Bay”, based in Lakewood Ranch, Florida — (an up-scale community in close proximity to Sarasota, on the western shores of the “Sunshine State”) — I found myself faced with the prospect of “more development work to do” on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB.  — Work that I really wasn’t planning to do until much later… but that I felt really needed to be done, in order to adequately deal with the large number of “REGIONAL” Magazines that I will undoubtedly encounter (in rather large numbers), as I begin moving to introduce the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB to magazine publishers across the United States, and around the globe.

For two whole weeks, and with many a scornful look from my wife — (who relentlessly chides me for being too much of a perfectionist)  — I once again found myself spending 14 to 20 hours per day, fleshing out the specific manner in which the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB will handle “REGIONAL” Magazines and Media.

I had always known that the “Regional” aspects of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB would be an altogether different dimension for the Hubsite.  — One that would provide the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S Users the ability to venture into, and explore — every nook and cranny of the geographic media landscape… by making it possible for people to search magazines and media geographically by COUNTRY… STATE or PROVINCE… COUNTY… CITY… TOWN… or even by VILLAGE.

— However, this was not a dimension I really wanted to get into, until I had some other web designers working with me on the project, and until we had reconstitued the current site using a more advanced web development platform, as well as had some money to invest into more technologically advanced programming, techniques, and features, for the Hubsite.

MAG-NET’S “WORLD-WIDE SEARCH PAGE”

Nonetheless… I developed and established the starting point of the geographic search features — the WORLD-WIDE SEARCH Page… which lists ALL of the “Nations of the World” , but currently provides links to just one — the United States of America.

— In doing so, I also took great care to add links to a good number of international agencies and resources (nearly 85 sites in all) that people might find useful when looking at the world from a “world-wide perspective”.

These links — which are towards the bottom of the page — include links to the official websites of The United NationsThe International Monetary FundThe World Trade OrganizationThe Olympic CommitteeThe Nobel Prize Committee… and The Miss World Pageant… to name a few.

— In all, it’s a long list of links to valuable information from international agencies and resources that have great influence in (and over) the world as we know it.  — Therefore…  besides being the “First Step” in exploring the world of REGIONAL Magazines and Media World-Wide, on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB… — In it’s own rightMAG-NET’S Worldwide Geographic Search Page also offers a great learning experience, and a chance to broaden one’s intellectual horizons and knowledge of what’s happening on the world stage.

MAG-NET’S “USA PAGE”

The second page I added, was the Regional Page for the United States of America… (or the USA Page).  — Actually, though… this wasn’t a page addition at all… as I simply took the “only” original Category Page that I had previously set up for “Regional Magazines” (on the Hubsite) and turned it into a Directory Page within the Geographic System Framework.

— Because we only have a handful of 100 or so Regional Magazines on the Hubsite (and on this page) at this time… I decided to just go ahead and leave them on the page for now… and decided that I would make placement of one’s regional magazine — under it’s appropriate state or territory (on the page) — a purchaseable option for magazines that would wish to take advantage of it.

—As I expect to add THOUSANDS of Regional Publications to the system, over the coming years — keeping them all on this page would be virtually impossible… or at the very least — extremely redundant and unnecessary, and therefore not worth the trouble.

— As for “National Resource Links” at the bottom of the page (the way I added links to international agencies and resources on the World-Wide Page)… — At present — I haven’t added them yet.  However, I will do so as soon as I get a chance, or have some interested parties wanting to advertise on the page.  However, at the present moment — I have much more pressing business to attend to, so I presently can’t say for sure when I’ll be able to take the time to address that particular situation.

One thing I did add to the USA Page, however, was — U.S. TERRITORIES!

— Here in “The States” , we often forget about the people and communities that inhabit those territorial areas of the United States, that are not officially incorporated “STATES” of the U.S. — or “STARS” on the U.S. Flag.

In adding territories to the page (using Wikipedia as my primary source materials) I conducted a great deal of research into America’s outlying territories, and learned that there too existed sizeable communities that were vibrant, and similarly connected to the rest of the nation and the world… through magazines, newspapers, radio, television, and of course — the internet.  — And I just felt that — here, on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB — we weren’t going to leave them out… or allow them to be forgotten… as true peoples of the United States of America.  — I decided I was going to try to use this opportunity to provide people with greater knowledge about ALL of the lands that exist under the U.S. Flag.  — Among them:

Puerto Rico – Population: 3.8 Million – Capital: San Juan - Check out Puerto Rico on Wikipedia.

The U.S. Virgin Islands – Population: 110,000 – Capital: Charlotte Amelie - Wikipedia: U.S. Virgin Islands.

Guam – Population: 178,000 – Capital: Hagatna - Wikipedia: Guam

The Northern Mariana Islands -  Population: 87,000 – Capital: Capital Hill – Wikipedia: N. Mariana Islands

American Samoa – Population: 67,000 – Capital: Pago Pago – Wikipedia: American Samoa

— and MORE!  (Check out U.S. Territories on Wikipedia)

Take this opportunity that the USA Page provides, to learn more about the United States and it’s many peoples and communities… and don’t forget about our non-state, territorial neighbors as well.

MAG-NET’S “STATE PAGES

Of course… MAG-NET’S “USA PAGE” provides links to state and territory-specific pages, within the framework of MAG-NET’S Geographic-Based System.  — At the present time, however… there are only TWO Active States on the page. —  Those being FLORIDA and OHIO.  (— FLORIDA — so I could adequately flesh out the system for our new “regional registrant” from the Sarasota area… — and OHIO — because I figured that as long as I was doing it for a small community in Florida… I might as well do it for the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S little hometown city of Fostoria, Ohio as well.)

The State Pages allow users to view all regionally-focused and/or regionally-published magazines, that are published within the state — right there on the state page — but also provide users the opportunity to “Search by County” or “Search by Municipality”, as well… when they click on the appropriate buttons.

THE “COUNTY DIRECTORY” AND “MUNICIPALITY DIRECTORY” PAGES

By clicking on the “Search by County” button, the user is taken to the State’s County Directory Page, where they will find a complete list of all of the counties located within that particular state… along with population information, other county-specific information, maps showing where each county is located within the boundaries of the state, and — of course — links to Active County Pages.

For quicker navigation to a specific County Page — a simple list of “County Page Links” is located in the upper right-hand column of the page, allowing users to avoid having to seek out a specific county on the rather long central column, that contains the county information and maps.  — Using the quick list… users can quickly and easily navigate to the MAG-NET Local Pages for those counties within the state, with which they might already be familiar.

Similary, a State’s Municipal Directory Page lists all of the Cities, Towns, Villages, and Unincorporated Communities, within the state… along with indicating which county within the state, each particular municipal area is located… as well as links to the “MAG-NET Local Pages” for those cities, towns and other areas.

The State PagesCounty Directory Pages, and Municipal Directory Pages, offer great state-county-city-related advertising opportunities, for businesses and organizations of all types.  — Especially in the areas of tourist attractions… events like festivals and concerts… and advertisements for professional sports teams, sporting events, etc.

The MAG-NET “LOCAL PAGES” — ”COUNTY PAGES” and “MUNICIPALITY PAGES”.  — Getting into the Nooks and Crannies…

As mentioned above, MAG-NET’S ”State Pages” offer the Hub’s Users the opportunity to search magazines and media “By County”, as well as “By Municipality”.  It is these two “types” of pages within MAG-NET’S Geographic-Based System, that constitute MAG-NET’S “Local Pages”.

While the County Pages allow users to break down a state’s “Media Spectrum” into magazines, tv stations, radio stations and programs, newspapers, etc. — that serve specific county-based areas within each state — The MAG-NET Geographic-Based System allows for each City, Town, Village, or Unincorporated Area (within a State, or within any “County within a State”) — to have it’s own “Municipal Page” (or “Local Page”).

What that means is that a MAG-NET User can (or should I say — will be able to) click on a link to effectively go to any County, City, Town, Village, (or even smaller area), within ANY State or Territory in the United States… and it will be like “taking a trip” to that particular State, County, City, Town, or Local Village!

— For instance — By going to the Manatee County Page in Florida… you will find links to the official websites of ALL of the MAGAZINES and NEWSPAPERS that are published within the borders of that county, or that focus on local lifestyles and news, for areas within the county… and you will also similarly find links to the official websites of all of the LOCAL TELEVISION NETWORKS and RADIO STATIONS and OTHER MEDIA TYPES that serve, or are otherwise available within the Manatee County Area of Florida, as well!

— What makes this even more exciting is that each County Page will also provide access to links to ALL of the official WEBSITES and CONTACT INFORMATION for ANY BUSINESSES, ORGANIZATIONS, or INDIVIDUALS — (through it’s soon to be attached directory pages) — that are based in, or serve, the County Area… and will provide local businesses with a new “No-Cost to Low-Cost” Advertising Channel, capable of being ”tailored to precisely fit” the marketing needs, desires, and budgets, of any organization!

— And as for the “Municipal” Local Pages?  (See the Lakewood Ranch FL or Fostoria OH Pages) — The MAG-NET Geographic-Based System breaks that same capability down to EVERY City… Town… Village… or Unincorpated Area or Community… WITHIN any County, or State, or Territory, within the United States of America!  — So, what we’re talking about is TRUE “LOCAL INTERNET COVERAGE”… on a scale, and in a way… that’s never even been remotely attempted before!

I mean, think about it for a moment… — From ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD! — a visitor to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB will be able to use MAG-NET’S Geographic-Based System to access even the “smallest community’s” MAG-NET Local Page, and access ALL of the same local media resources… government resources… business resources… educational resources… local history information… tourist attractions… etc. — that are specifically available on the internet, to individuals living within those communities!  — The MAG-NET Local Pages will not only provide local inhabitants with easier access on the internet to information, news, and resources — available within their own local communities — but will provide that same level of access to anyone else in the world!  — And, will likewise… provide any local inhabitant, the ability to similarly explore any other community in the world, as well!

With MAG-NET Local and MAG-NET’S Geographic-Based System — what we are literally talking about is taking Google Local and Yahoo Local, and every other kind of “Local” Online… and literally multiplying their capabilities in servicing the local informational needs of communities everywhere… BY A HUNDRED FOLD!

Now, Sure — When you consider WHERE the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB currently resides in it’s own development, as both a business and as a web-based search resource… — Sure… it’s a far-reaching goal…  — Sure… it’s going to take a long time… — Sure… it’s going to take a lot of hard work… — And, sure… it’s going to take a whole lot of money… — But hey!  — Isn’t it TRUE that the United States needs to create MILLIONS OF NEW JOBS, for it’s MILLIONS of displaced workers?  — Isn’t it TRUE that our national and world economies need to be expanded beyond the traditional industries of manufacturing, finance, education, and governmental services… to more heavily expand into informational technologies and computers… the sciences… and the development of new businesses and services? — Well… Here’s our chance!

— Algorithmic Search Technology and new programming techniques that make processes more efficient are great… — But, if something can be done more effectively, and with more positive economic impact on the people of the United States and the World — through the use of techniques that are more labor-intensive and require greater human interaction… — isn’t it a shame to simply cling to those “so-called” and often “self-proclaimed” TECHNOLOGICAL IMPROVEMENTS that seem to only pad the pockets of a select few, at the expense of everybody else?

This is why I have chosen to “farm out” the work of developing the MAG-NET Local Pages, to individuals and organizations that are located INSIDE of EACH of the “local areas” (which is EVERY local area and community across the U.S., and around the world) that we seek to turn into “MAG-NET Local Pages” on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB.

LOOKING FOR A JOB, ANYONE?

In essence… I am offering up licenses and franchises to ANY individual or organization that might wish to handle the majority of the “Local Development Field Work” associated with MAG-NET’S Geographic-Based System, within their local areas.

Basically… I’m looking to connect with individuals who want to take on the job of physically going out into their local communities… meeting with business owners, managers, and local media entities… (to explain what we are collectively trying to accomplish with the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and MAG-NET Local…) — And sell advertising on, and otherwise develop… their area’s MAG-NET Local Pages… as well as become the acting liasion between the businesses within their local areas and communities, and the entire MAG-NET MEDIA HUB System.

I am working to create something unique, and ultra-powerful, and ultra-COOL on the internet… through everything I am trying to bring to market through The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and MAG-NET Local.  But I can’t do it alone.

— That’s why I need to connect and ally myself with other professionally-minded visionaries — maybe someone like YOURSELF!  — in Nations, States, Cities, Towns, and Villages, across the U.S. and around the world. — People that would truly like to have the opportunity to connect their hometown areas to the world, through the internet, and through the systems offered through The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, and MAG-NET Local.

Are you someone who could dedicate their professional life and time to such a task?

Are you ready to partner with the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and create a local business for yourself?  — A business that is capable of challenging you to your professional core… putting you on a first-name basis with every business owner and entrepreneur in your local area… and providing you the potential to earn an above-average income, limited only by your skills, and talent, and perserverence?

— If so… contact me via the Contact MAG-NET Form on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE.  — Because I would love to talk with you.

If NOT… then sit back and prepare yourself for all of the exciting things that are about to happen… on the World Wide Web, and in Your Local Community.  — Because no matter how long it might take… and no matter how hard we might have to work… The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and MAG-NET Local is going to be coming to your home town… eventually !   — It’s just a matter of time, and a matter of “WHO” will be bringing MAG-NET LOCAL to YOUR Local Area.

— Maybe… if it doesn’t sound like an opportunity that’s right for you — maybe you know someone with integrity and drive, who might be up to the challenge and might possibly be interested.  — If so… please tell them about the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and this blogpost, and have them get in contact with me, if they might be interested.

Best Wishes to All and Thank You for your time and consideration!

What’s New on The  MAG-NET MEDIA HUB?

THINGS ARE LOOKING UP!

After losing the job (on 3/23/11) that had been forcing me to work 8-12 hours per day… 7 days a week… — (at something I didn’t WANT to do, but HAD to do, in order to provide for my family) — and that had been sapping me of valuable energy and diverting it from the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB Project — I returned to the project with new vigor… as well as a renewed drive to finish required preparations of the site, in advance of the required “Magazine Publisher Contacting Campaign”.

Back on unemployment, and barely able to scrape by… — I am determined to quickly make the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB my full-time job, and begin bringing this vision of mine to fruition.

Over the past week, I have been spending a substantial amount of time on LinkedIn again… and have learned a lot more about how that professional networking resource might be utilized in my ramping up of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB.  — As a member of two groups on the LinkedIn Platform, that are made up of more than 10,000 magazine publishers and publishing personnel from around the world — I have always known that these groups would be highly valuable and potentially instrumental… in ramping up the project.  — However, it has taken some time to “learn the ropes” and figure out the proper tact to take, in best utilizing those resources for the task at hand. — Now confident in using the resource, and now armed with a plan for moving forward on the platform… I am confident that I can use it to my advantage, and to the advantage of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB.

As a testament to that… I have an announcement to make that is directly related to my activities on LinkedIn, over the past week…

On Friday – May 20th, 2011… The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB received the registrations of it’s first two magazine publishers, on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE!

The publications in question?

Living out East and on the Bay is a print-based lifestyle magazine for Sarasota and Manatee Counties, on Florida’s West Coast… that covers ideas, people, food, drink, homes, gardens and local issues…

and…

Alternative Latin Investor is an online magazine published by the Capricorn Research Group in Buenos Aires, Argentina… that focuses on providing up to date information and analysis regarding investing in the alternative asset classes in Latin America.

(NOTE: You can visit the official websites of these magazines — just like you can on the Alphabetical Listing Pages and Category Pages of the Hubsite — by clicking on their titles above.)

I extend a sincere Thanks! and Welcome! to these two publishing groups… and look forward to working with them in getting their publications properly set up on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE!

THIS IS A MILESTONE FOR THE MAG-NET MEDIA HUB!  — And I hope that you will raise your cup of java… glass of wine… bottle of water… or whatever you might have next to you, right now… — and rejoice with me in a little toast to commemorate this moment.

May this moment — after 3 years and 10 months of pre-launch development work… under highly adverse conditions — truly mark the beginning of something wonderful on the World Wide Web… — Something that transforms the world of information and media, and truly makes it “Easier… More Enjoyable… and Much More FUN and EXCITING, for People Everywhere… to “Explore LIFE and the World Around Them”… through the World of Magazines… Periodicals… and Media Online…”

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB… “The World’s New Gateway to the World of Magazines, Periodicals, and Media Online…” —– It’s about to become more than merely a tagline…  It’s about to become reality.

May GOD bless this endeavor, as we ask Him to bless all good works and people everywhere… and may He help us ALL in bringing knowledge, foresight, compassion, and spiritual enlightenment to ALL of the People of the World… —Fore THAT is the ultimate mission of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB… and THAT is the ultimate goal for which we should ALL strive…

— Cheers… Best Wishes… and Thanks to You All!

————————-

THE POINT OF THIS ARTICLE

Now, why exactly am I bringing this information to YOUR attention, as the publisher of a print-based magazine?

— To reinforce something that I’m sure you already know all too well.  — And that is the fact that the internet is HUGE!… it continues to GROW as an informational and media format and channel… and it is a medium that your print-based magazine MUST come to grips with — and learn to use to your advantage — if your title and brand is to ultimately survive, many years into the future.

Now, you might be sitting there saying to yourself — “Our magazine already has a website on the web… we are already present within the internet marketplace… and we are already offering content, and tapping into our markets on the web.”

YES, you probably do… and YES you probably are.  — And, if you’re not… then you are not only overlooking an opportunity to effectively market your brand on the most predominate and fastest-growing marketing channel of the day — but you are also missing the boat (at your peril), by failing to position your brand amongst those who will be servicing YOUR informational, editorial, and content markets on the web — today… and into the future.

— However, if your magazine DOES have an “Official” website associated with it — that either you produce yourself, or have someone else produce on your behalf — the questions you need to be asking yourself are:

  • Are you satisfied with the amount of user traffic that your magazine’s website is getting?
  • Is your magazine’s website profitable on it’s own?
  • Is your magazine’s website considered to be a drain on company resources, rather than a profit center?
  • Do you consider it a marketing expense, rather than a revenue stream?
  • Is the cost of driving traffic to your magazine’s website (through SEO, sponsored search, online advertising, etc.) more than what your website generates in revenues?
  • Are the revenues you are generating from online advertising on your website, substantial enough to support the ongoing needs and expenses of your organization?
  • Is your website having the desired impact?
  • Is it creating brand recognition, or driving new subscription sales and individual copy sales for your print-based publications?
  • Are you getting the kind of market penetration on the web, that you would like to have?
  • Is your market on the web able to find your magazine’s official website on the web, easily enough?
  • In marketing your magazine’s website on the web, are you getting any credit for having a print-based magazine in the streets, or are you having to compete (online) on an equal basis with online-only magazines and blogs, that have fewer (if any) revenue-generation requirements?

Now, if you can answer ANY of the above bulleted points, negatively — you’ve got to recognize that you’ve not only got your work cut out for you, but that the current channels you are using to market your magazine’s website online, are sorely lacking.  — They just simply ARE NOT UP TO PAR WITH THE JOB AT HAND.

Now, you can go and spend THOUSANDS and even TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS or more each month on online advertising and SEO, and continue hoping that such investments might eventually pay off…

— Or you can continue moving forward — hoping beyond hope — that the little bit that you might be doing to market your magazine’s official website online, will be enough…

— Or you can even bury your head in the sand, continue to say to yourself that this whole internet thing is just a bad dream, or that it’s long-term effects on your print-based magazine will be inconsequential…

But, what if I told you that you could throw A LITTLE BIT OF YOUR TIME, and maybe A LITTLE BIT OF YOUR MONEY (because it doesn’t even have to cost you a dime, but we could sure use your help in those regards!), into banding together with your fellow compatriots in the print-based magazine publishing industry, to help me in developing a NEW INTERNET RESOURCE that will not only bring the print media industry to the fore-front of the media spectrum on the web — but one that will hold PRINT-BASED MAGAZINE BRANDS out, as being the Premier Media Brands in each media market, and make it HUNDREDS OF TIMES EASIER for people to find your magazine’s official website, on the World Wide Web?

Would you be willing to do that?   Would you be willing to invest a little bit of your time and money into helping to create such a resource?

If so, then you need to check out what we’re trying to do with The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB“The World’s New Gateway to the World of Magazines, Periodicals, and Media Online” .  — A new Directory-Based Search Engine that seeks to make it “Easier… More Enjoyable… and Much More FUN & EXCITING — for People Everywhere — to “Explore LIFE and the World Around Them” through the World of Magazines and Media Online.”

Even though a trip to the active version of our prototype site at http://www.mag-netmediahub.com (the version that’s waiting to get filled up with magazine covers) might make you think so  — The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is NOT just a run-of-the-mill website… It IS designed to be an internet search engine and online media portal.

While the world often thinks of search engines as being only of the “algorithmic” variety — like Google, Yahoo!, Bing, and others — The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is of the “directory-based” variety.  — Meaning that, rather than having a computer-generated robot returning search results based on what IT  electronically feels is most relevant, based on keywords that the user types into the search box — with directory-based search engines like the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB — the directories are man-made and users must manually navigate the directories themselves, and seek out the exact site or types of sites, that they might be looking for — using the directory system provided.

Now, on the surface — one could easily say that — “Oh! — People are never going to want to use something like that!    — Not when they can just do a keyword search on Google or Yahoo… do it more quickly… and get the results returned to them automatically! — People are lazy!  — There’s just no way people will ever use it!”

— But that’s like saying that people would never use a stove or barbecue grill, when they can just nuke their food in a microwave… — Or that people would never want to travel to Egypt to see the pyramids, when they can just sit at home and see them on the History Channel… — Or that people would never buy the higher-priced bag of Doritos, when they can get a similar off-brand version, for 50% less! — OR… that people would never want to buy magazines in print, when they can just find the same information online for free!

People are looking for quality and experience, equally as much as they are looking for speed and convenience.  — And when the fast, convenient, and inexpensive model doesn’t produce the results that a person wants… they’re out there looking for, using, and “adopting” — the more premium model that they can count on, to do the job right!  — That’s why I KNOW FOR SURE that people will use The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB… if we can just finish developing what I envision for the HUBSITE, and generate enough in the way of revenues (from magazine publishers, other media sites, and other advertisers), to properly market Hub to the masses.

— As with everything in business… the key is marketing your products and services effectively… — And so it is with the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, in the World of Search Engines, Web Portals, and the World of Online Media…

So, how does The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB work?

Without going into so much detail that I bore you to sleep… regurgitate information from previous posts, or from the Hubsite’s “About MAG-NET” or “iNFO for Publishers” pages… or give up my secrets to would-be competitors — the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is first and foremost designed to “Bridge the Gap” between the algorithmic search engines and the “World of Magazines and Media Online…” — Overcoming the necessity for magazines to invest heavily into (or rely on) SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO) or other forms of online promotion, in order for their official websites to be easily found online, by their targeted readers.

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB does this by making it extremely easy to find the “OFFICIAL” websites of magazines on the Hubsite, by making it possible for it’s users to seek out titles ALPHABETICALLYor BY CATEGORY OF INTEREST… through it’s Alphabetical Listing Pages… or through its 155 (and growing) Category Pages that span virtually every category of interest known to man!  (Basically… if you publish a print-based magazine, there’s a Category Page on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, where your magazine will be a fit.  However, an incredible number of Sub-Category Pages will be coming, that will put “links to YOUR magazine” right in the middle of your precise market niche!)

Now, as far as the “Bridging the Gap” part goes… consider this:  If the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB makes it extremely fast and easy to find ANY magazine online, via it’s full complement of magazine directories… it only stands to reason that IF the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB — supported by the combined and leveraged power of the entire print-based magazine publishing industry — comes up at the top of the search results on Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc. — every time someone types in the words “magazine” or “media” — then the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB will definitely be the fastest and easiest way to find ANY print-based magazine on Google, Yahoo!, or Bing.  — Wouldn’t you say?  — Well, that’s what I mean when I say that the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB has been designed to “Bridge the Gap” between the algorithmic search engines and the “World of Magazines Online!”.

Secondly, the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is also designed in such a way as to be desirable as one’s browser homepage — so that when someone goes to get on the internet on their computer, the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB will be the first thing that they see.

Using the same type of hierarchical structure that each of the algorithmic search engines use, by basically placing themselves at the center of their own internet universes, then providing outbound links to every known website on the internet — the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB does the same thing… effectively subjugating ALL other websites… web-based resources and applications… and search engines (including Google and Yahoo) within the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB INTERNET UNIVERSE! — Making it possible to GO ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET THAT SOMEONE MIGHT WANT TO GO right there… directly from The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB HOMEPAGE!  — So, in this respect… the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is not only designed to be a directory-based search engine that people can use to more easily surf the official websites of magazines and other media-related sites online — it is also designed to be a dashboard… or interface… or multi-dimensional internet portal… or internet “stargate”… (whatever you want to call it) … that makes it possible for anyone to do whatever they might want to do on the internetthrough or from — ANY PAGE on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE!

— Now, that is SUPER POWERFUL STUFF!  IT JUST DOESN’T GET ANYMORE POWERFUL THAN THAT, DOES IT!

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB actually takes Google, Yahoo, Bing, AOL, and ASK.com — along with many of the internet’s most popular and respected internet resources — like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Ebay, Wikipedia, and others — and hitches them up like a team of horses” on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB Homepage — to make the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB effectively the FASTESTEASIEST… and MOST ENJOYABLE WAY — TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO — ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB!

So what does this all mean for the magazine publishing industry?

It means that with the industry’s support, the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB can put the Print-Based Magazine Publishing Industry at the FOREFRONT OF THE MEDIA SPECTRUM in our little (but potentially over-powering) corner of the internet universe — and make finding YOUR MAGAZINE on the World Wide Web as fast, and easy, and as inexpensive for you, as it can possibly be!

So, what do I need from YOU — Mr. or Ms. Magazine Publisher?

2.) ONCE YOUR MAGAZINE IS REGISTERED WE NEED TO GET YOUR FREE LISTING OPTIONS  “PROPERLY” SET UP ON THE MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE, ACCORDING TO YOUR WISHES.

  • —– We need you to either approve or re-write you magazine’s LinkListing on the Hub.
  • —– We need to figure out exactly, which Category Pages (out of our 155 Category Pages) you feel your magazine should definitely be listed on, and come to an agreement on that matter.
  • —– And, we need to obtain your express approval and permission for us to add YOUR MAGAZINE’S COVERART  to your particular Alphabetical Listing Page (on the Hub), as well as to ALL Category Pages for which your magazine qualifies, as a magazine of that category — in the form of a “CoverLink” that will take users from the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, to your official website!)

These are all FREE LISTING OPTIONS that your magazine is entitled to on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB — that carry NO SETUP FEES or RUNNING COSTS to you!

YOUR MAGAZINE is entitled to these listing options, just for being a qualifying magazine that publishes in print.

Just as any qualifying website would be entitled to free listings on any of the other search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) — these listing options are made FREELY available to you — not just for YOUR benefit — but for the benefit of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S users.  But don’t think for a minute that they’re not valuable to you, just because they’re free and you don’t have to pay for them.  These free options are VERY valuable to you!  It’s just that this is the way we have to do it, so we can eventually get EVERY MAGAZINE KNOWN TO MAN listed on the the Hub.  — Therefore, the way we have to do it is make it FREE!

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is a media search engine that seeks to provide the internet community with a means of easily finding links to EVERY magazine and media site known to man.  And your magazine will be listed on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB — for the benefit of our users — whether you want your magazine to be listed on the hubsite, or not — or whether you ask us to list it on the hubsite, or not.  We will be listing ALL magazines on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, that we find out about — to make them easily “findable” by those who choose to visit and use our hubsite.

We simply ask that you register your magazine with the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, so you can make whatever changes you would like to make to the way that we have listed (or will list) your magazine on the Hubsite — AFTER we have verified beyond reasonable doubt that we are truly dealing with the publishers of YOUR magazine(s), and not someone who is trying to wrongfully claim that status, for whatever diabolical reason that one might be able to think up.

3.) WE NEED TO TELL YOU ABOUT OUR PREMIUM PLACEMENT OPTIONS AND PROMOTIONAL OPTIONS, AND SEE WHICH OPTIONS (IF ANY) YOUR MAGAZINE MIGHT WISH TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF, ON THE MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE.

There are many  options available to you, that you can use to make YOUR magazine stand out from your competitors, and be more noticeable on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB.  However, these options (of course) come with a price.

So, once we’ve got your magazine registered and properly set-up in regards to your FREE listing options on the Hub — we’ll tell you about all of additional low-cost to premium-cost promotional options that you can choose from, and employ on the hubsite, and find out if there are any that you would like to use.

4.) IF YOU WILL NOT BE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ANY OF OUR LOW-COST TO PREMIUM PROMOTIONAL OPTIONS — WE NEED YOU TO GIVE SERIOUS CONSIDERATION TO THE IDEA OF  PROVIDING US WITH YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT THROUGH A ONE-TIME OR PERIODIC DONATION

Just like YOUR magazine… We are limited to what we can do, by the amount of financial resources that we have at our disposal.

At the time of this writing (April 10, 2011), we have absolutely NO FINANCIAL RESOURCES, and must pursue our vision for the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, with whatever we can find for free, or at extremely low cost.  — i.e. – software…  phone service… development assistance… etc. —– as well as TIME —– (because we can only work on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB’S development in our spare time, while we work other jobs.)

While we are open to investment, and are interested in possibly entering into a deal with angel investors who would like to be part of the opportunity that the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB represents — we must continue moving the project forward under the assumption that NO investment deals will ultimately come forward.  — Meaning… that we are not going to allow anything as trivial as “lack of money”, to keep us from bringing our ultimate vision for the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, to fruition.  It just means that we must rely on our ability to convey the future benefits of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, to the magazine publishing industry, and hope that individual magazine publishers like yourselves, will choose to support us financially until the business can stand on it’s own.

Does an artist choose not to create something that he’s inspired to create, simply because nobody but himself is paying for the canvas or the paints?

No, he uses whatever he can, to bring his grand vision to life, and to the world… lives off of other projects, and the generosity of patrons who believe in his work — and hopes in the end that his vision and the thing that he has created — bedazzles the world, and leaves a lasting impression on mankind!  — The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is no different.

So, if you believe in our work — please support it generously by utilizing the premium promotional options that we’ve assembled for you, or by providing us with one-time or periodic donations, that will help to develop the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB into the amazing and world-changing resource that we know it is destined to become!

  • Donations can be sent in the form of a check via mail to: The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB – 1004 N. Union Street – Fostoria, Ohio – 44830 – USA
  • Donations can also be made via PayPal Services, using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, or your Bank Card, from the iNFO For Publishers Page of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB!
  • Any and all donations that you make to this effort, will likewise be credited to your magazine’s advertising account, and will be applicable to any advertising on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, that your magazine might want to utilize in the future.  Therefore, if you don’t want to think of it as a donation… or can’t justify the expense as a donation — you can always consider it a non-refundable “pre-paid advertising credit”!

5.  LAST BUT NOT LEAST — WE WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE THAT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE, IN HELPING WITH THE CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT OF THE MAG-NET MEDIA HUB!

  • As a magazine publisher, or as someone who works in the magazine publishing industry — you probably personally know other magazine publishers, or people who work in the magazine publishing industry.  — If so, please spread the word about the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB and what we’re working to bring to the internet, on behalf of the print-based magazine publishing industry.  — Do what you can to encourage other magazine publishers to come to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE… get their magazines registered… and get their magazines properly set up on the Hub!  — The faster we can assemble a large enough contingent of magazines capable of leveraging enough combined resources to launch a MASSIVE MARKETING CAMPAIGN aimed at THE MASSES — the faster you will have a resource (in the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB) that will be able to effectively increase the “Footprint on the Web” of your magazine’s official website!  — So, please… SPREAD THE WORD!
  • If you would be interested in providing us with a back-link on your magazine’s official website (which would be greatly appreciated!)… go to the iNFO for Publishers Page at the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB… scroll down the page… and in the left-hand column, you will find a variety of JPEG images that are emblazoned with a seal that says “MAG-NET MEDIA HUB Association Member”.  — If you will, have your webmaster copy and paste one of these images to your website, with a back-link to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB Homepage (at http://www.mag-netmediahub.com).  — By doing so, you are not only going to be adding a little bit of additional “bling” to your website, and stating your affiliation to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB Network of Magazine Publishers, for all of the internet universe to see… — but you are going to be providing a valuable back-link to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE that will quite possibly have a profound effect on the Hubsite’s page ranking on the algorithmic search engines, and assist us in greatly minimizing the amount of online advertising that the Hub will have to do, to come up at the top of the search results, as mentioned earlier in this article.  — So, please… go to the iNFO for Publishers Page and “Get Your Bling!”
  • While your assistance in these regards will eventually be quite helpful (when we are ready to launch the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB “Officially”) — please refrain from publishing any extensive press releases that might drive large amounts of “User Traffic to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE  — as much development work is still required before we will be ready to receive “throngs” of visitors.  — We need to get at least 1,500 magazine covers added to the pages of the Hub, before we can consider it ”open for business”.  Otherwise, visitors are going to be sadly disappointed with the media search experience that they find there. — First impressions, as you know — ARE EVERYTHING! — and we would very much like people’s first impressions of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB to be “WOW!”  — So, please… help us preserve that WOW! Factor, by not publishing any press releases aimed at the consumer market, until AFTER we say we are ready for it.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and Welcome to the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB — “The World’s New Gateway to the World of Magazines, Periodicals, and Media Online…”

And again — If you have any questions: You are invited to ask them by Leaving a Comment, Leaving a Reply, or Posting a Comment on this BlogPost, and I will reply to it within the post (if possible)… or you can contact us securely and privately via our CONTACT PAGE on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUBSITE.

Thanks Again… and Happy Hub Surfing to YOU!

On Becoming a Man – Part One   5 comments

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB

Michael L. BrownON BECOMING A MAN – Part One

By Michael L. Brown

Founder, CEO, and Director of Development – MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, LTD

“In the days of my youth, I was told what it is to be a man… Now I’ve reached that age, I’ve tried to do all those things the best I can…”  — Opening line from the song “Good Times Bad Times” by Led Zeppelin

Every young boy thinks a bit differently.

With some… the difference is like night and day — with much depending on the environment within which they are raised.

But as for myself, I can remember that when I was a young lad in the late 60′s and earyly 70′s, I was very interested in “manly things”, and in learning to become the best man that I could possibly be.

I very much enjoyed reading books and watching television shows and movies, and gravitated mostly towards those that portrayed men doing adventurous and heroic things — like rescuing damsels in distress… bringing criminals to justice… exploring outer space… sailing the ocean blue… fighting off monsters, and saving the world… and  going off to war for their country.

And while I learned a lot about being a good man from my father, who provided the best of examples for myself and my two brothers — he was a hard worker… physically strong, but never abusive in any way (even when he occasionally had to whip our butts with a belt, for good reason)… he didn’t drink alcohol or smoke, but wasn’t against uttering a few “cuss words” now and then, when he felt he needed to make a point… and you always knew that he would stand up and fight anybody (and probably win) and do whatever he had to do to protect his family, at all costs… — but even though he had provided me with such a great example of what a good man should be… and much of it had already taken hold — at the age of thirteen — at the dawn of my manhood — I found myself asking myself the question… “What kind of man do I want to be, when I grow up?”

I wasn’t asking myself what I wanted to be when I grew up, because I had thought about that before, and pretty much already decided that I wanted to be some kind of rich businessman… or a scientist… or a soldier… or a rock and roll star… or a famous actor.  — No, I wasn’t asking myself what I wanted to be… — I was asking myself something altogether new and different…  — “What SORT OF MAN DID I WANT TO BE when I grew up?”

How did I want my family and friends to perceive me to be, and look upon me — as a man — when I grew up?

— Did I want to be physically strong and capable of very hard and heavy work, or did I not really care about that?

— Did I want to be courageous, and stand up for myself and what was right, at all costs… or would I allow myself to be the kind of guy that would back down to save his own skin, when the going got tough?

— Did I want to be honest and forthright, or did I want to be conniving and scheming?

— Did I want to stay on the right side of the law, or did I want to become a criminal?

— Did I want to do an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay, or did I want to take it wherever I could get it?

— Did I want to be a smooth talker and lay with every girl that caught my eye, or did I want to find that special girl that I could love and raise a family with?

— Did I even want to have children or a family?

— Did I even want to get married?

— Did I want to be the flashy man with a lot of cash and nice things, or could I be satisfied with the working class lifestyle that I had been raised in?

— What kind of man do women want?

All of these questions just kept flooding into my brain, and I knew that I had reached the point in my life where I needed to make these decisions about how I was going to move forward, and live my life from there.  — Because I was thirteen… I was a teenager now… and I was beginning to feel a real aching in my soul for the smiles… and the company… and the affection of — (you guessed it) — GIRLS!

So, I thought very hard about it.  I knew I wanted to be a good man… — One that my parents could be proud of… — So, where could I find a list of principles for being a good man?  (Remember… this was 1975… — Before the invention of personal computers and the internet.  Information like that wasn’t just readily available back then.)

“There’s the Bible!” I thought.

Although my family wasn’t really religious, and we NEVER went to church, except for weddings and funerals… each of my brothers and myself had a Children’s Bible that one of our aunts and uncles had bought for us, many years before… so I pulled it out at and began looking through it.  — However, It wasn’t too long before I thought “This is going to take a long time to find the answers I’m looking for.  Where else might I find out about the principles of being a good man?” —Then it dawned on me!  — THE CODE OF CHIVALRY!

I remembered that I had taken out a book from the library once… about knights, and castles, and the middle ages… and in it had been a list of virtues that knights were supposed to live by, called the CODE OF CHIVALRY.  I then decided that I needed to go back to the library… find that book again… and then I would have my answers.  So that’s what I did.  — And though I can’t recount the exact code that I found in that library book, back in 1975 — here’s a list that I found on a website from England (http://www.castles.me.uk/medieval-code-chivalry.htm), that seems to be pretty much how I remember it.

THE CODE OF CHIVALRY

To fear God and maintain His Church
To serve the liege lord in valour and faith
To protect the weak and defenceless
To give succour to widows and orphans
To refrain from the wanton giving of offence
To live by honour and for glory
To despise pecuniary reward
To fight for the welfare of all
To obey those placed in authority
To guard the honour of fellow knights
To eschew unfairness, meanness and deceit
To keep faith
At all times to speak the truth
To persevere to the end in any enterprise begun
To respect the honour of women
Never to refuse a challenge from an equal
Never to turn the back upon a foe.

Yeah — that’s pretty much how I remember it, except that I sort of remember there being something about respecting your elders in there somewhere… but that might have come from the Bible.  I’m not sure.  — Which — by the way — I DID end up reading the entire Bible shortly after this episode in my life, and decided that I would also do my best, to live my life according to the TEN COMMANDMENTS as well.  — Which, here is a link to that list as well, if you’re interested, or unfamiliar with them… (source: http://www.allabouttruth.org/10-commandments.htm)

But anyway — believe it or not — I’ve pretty much used the combination of all of these tenets, and lived my life by the majority of them (and other personal beliefs) ever since… — And from the age of thirteen to now, they have provided me with a strong foundation in my decision-making as a man, and have been a true source of strength when fear, anger, or confusion, might rear it’s ugly head, and cloud one’s judgement.

So, if you’re a young man looking for guidance, as I was… or if you’re the parent or friend of a young man who is seemingly struggling to find his way in the world… — or … if you are an older man who just isn’t happy about the way his life has been going up to this point…  — Don’t forget about the CODE OF CHIVALRY and the TEN COMMANDMENTS.  — They are as relevent today, as they were when they were written centuries ago… and they will serve you well.

(Plus — THE GIRLS WILL SIMPLY LOVE YOU FOR IT!  They are all yearning for gentlemen and knights in shining armor… So prove to them that “CHIVALRY IS NOT DEAD!” — Become a REAL MAN and ADOPT THE CODE! )

TO BE CONTINUED…

THIS IS YOUR LIFE

A MAG-NET MEDIA HUB BLOGSPOT POST by

Michael L. Brown – Founder, CEO, and Director of Development – MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, LTD

Sign on the Street --- THIS IS YOUR LIFE

The sign above just about says it all… or does it?  What do you think?  — Let’s examine it a little more closely…

THIS IS YOUR LIFE… Yes… Of course each person’s life is their own.  Ultimately, no one can make decisions for you, and no one is responsible for the outcomes of the decisions you make.  No one except for you.

DO WHAT YOU LOVE, AND DO IT OFTEN… Yes… As long as what you love does not hurt or infringe upon the rights of others, do what you love and do it as often as you can.  Temper this, however, with the knowledge that “too much of a good thing, can be bad for you.”  You must find the proper balance.

IF YOU DON’T LIKE SOMETHING, CHANGE IT… There are lots of things that you are not going to like, that will have influence on your life and the decisions you make.  Some things are personal things, some things are social things, and some things are legal things, or governmentally-imposed laws on society.

Some things you can change, and some things will be outside of your control to change.  — To find happiness in life, you must strive to change those things that you do not like, or do not agree with — but ultimately you must decide for yourself how you will react to those things that you cannot change… learn to live within that reality… and be willing to take responsibility for your actions in relation to those things that you are unsuccessful in changing.

IF YOU DON’T LIKE YOUR JOB, QUIT…  I really like the thought behind this one, but how realistic is it really?

If you quit that job you don’t like, you better have another one lined up (hopefully one that you’ll be happier with), or a good deal of your own money to rely on, if you’ll be going into business for yourself.

Don’t expect others – your parents, your children, your family members, or society — to support you financially.  Don’t be a financial burden on others.  Every teen and adult that is of working age, needs to be pulling their own weight, supporting themselves financially, and living within their means.

Maybe they should change this one to “PREPARE FOR AND SEEK OUT THE JOB AND LIFE THAT YOU WANT”

IF YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME, STOP WATCHING TV…  I can’t argue with that one, but sometimes you’ve just got to “VEGETATE IN FRONT OF THE TUBE”.  — You know what Imean?

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE, STOP.  THEY WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU WHEN YOU START DOING THINGS YOU LOVE…  This is actually very good advice.  If you are frantically looking for love, you are probably going to come off as desperate, and turn potential mates off.  — But, if you get out and become socially involved in things that you have a passion for, or are interested in… then you will be positioning yourself to come into contact with people – and potential mates – with whom you share common interests, and are possibly compatible.   — Very good advice…

STOP OVER-ANALYZING.  LIFE IS SIMPLE…  OOPS!  Looks like we’re breaking this one!

I don’t really know what to think about this one.  Living a life of happiness and contentment often seems to be anything but simple.  Every day you are faced with decisions that shape your life and have implications on your future.

Perhaps they mean to refer to the idea of ”Live for Today, and Just Deal With Tomorrow When It Comes.”

— While I definitely believe in trying to take the occassional moment to “Stop and Smell the Roses…” and enjoy the world and people around me — I’m not a big fan of the “Live for Today” concept.  — People who subscribe to it tend to take it much too literally, believing that they can just muddle through life day by day, casting their future to the wind, and believing that everything will just work itself out in the end.  — These are the same people that often end up relying on someone else to bail them out, when their lack of planning and bad decision-making finally catches up with them.

Ultimately, your happiness tomorrow depends on the seeds of happiness (the decisions you make in planning for your future happiness) that you plant today.  You must envision the happy life that you want to have… determine what you need to do to obtain it… then develop and implement a plan that will get you there.

Throwing all caution to the wind and simply doing “What Feels Good Right Now…” is a haphazard way of living that ultimately makes you less happy — both in the short term, and in the long run.  — Again… it’s a matter of finding the proper balance.  — Develop a plan… implement that plan… revel in the happiness that comes along the way, because “the majority of the happiness in your life comes during the journey, not in the destination”… and take every moment you can to reflect on your life and the world around you.

The world is MAGICAL!  — Life is MAGICAL! — So, try to take the occassional moment to admire it and watch it unfold.  “Stop and Smell the Roses”… but don’t let it keep you from preparing for your happiness in the future.

ALL EMOTIONS ARE BEAUTIFUL…  This is simply not true.

LOVE is beautiful… JOY is beautiful… CONTENTMENT… ADMIRATION… COMPASSION… PRIDE IN ONE’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS — These are beautiful emotions.

But HATE is not beautiful… ANGER is not beautiful… JEALOUSY… CONTEMPT… SELFISHNESS… PRIDEFUL INDIGNATION — These are not beautiful emotions…

I’m sure you can think of others for both categories, but I think you get the picture.

WHEN YOU EAT, APPRECIATE EVERY LAST BITE…  Yes, definitely.

While EATING is something that most of us take for granted, do keep in mind that there are others who are less fortunate… — Some who are going to sleep hungry day after day, and some that are even dying from starvation.  So, be thankful for the food you have to eat…  — Savor every bite… — Give pause to reflect on the struggles of others, and what they are going through in life… — Say the occassional prayer for them, regardless of your faith… — You never know when YOU might become one of the less fortunate.  Such is life.

OPEN YOUR MIND, ARMS, AND HEART TO NEW THINGS AND PEOPLE.  WE ARE UNITED IN OUR DIFFERENCES…

Yes, open your MIND to new things and people… but don’t stop thinking for yourself.  Nobody has ALL of the answers, and you can learn a lot from people who have varying viewpoints. — However, don’t just take it for granted that others know what they’re talking about.  Be prepared to diligently research new ideas and apply serious logic to them, before declaring a new position for yourself, on those issues.

Opening your ARMS to new things and people is about welcoming new things and new people into your life.  Keep in mind, however, that you don’t want to just welcome everything and everyone into your life.  There are varying degrees of good things and good people, and bad things and bad people (out there), and so you must be very selective about what and who you truly let into your life.  — I think that this should be something more like “Be Open-Minded Enough to Give People a “Chance” to Become Part of Your Life”.

As for opening your HEART to new things and new people… YES, DO!  Opening your heart to new things and new people is about being more compassionate towards others, creating more LOVE in the world and in your life, and spreading the joy that is LIFE with everyone you come in contact with.  The world would be a much better place if everyone would do that, and it can start with YOU… TODAY!  Simply make the decision to focus on the POSITIVES in people and things, and not the NEGATIVES.  We are all brothers and sisters, so open your heart and provide LOVE and COMPASSION to ALL… — When you do, LOVE and HAPPINESS will permeate your life.

ASK THE NEXT PERSON YOU SEE, WHAT THEIR PASSION IS, AND SHARE YOUR INSPIRING DREAM WITH THEM…  WOW!  This is a rather intriguing proposition isn’t it!  I don’t know, however, if I would just walk up to someone on the street that I didn’t know and say “Hey… What is your passion in life?”  — They’d probably look at you as if you were some kind of crazy person, and may feel immediately compelled to flee for their safety!

But, what if you made it a point during casual conversations, with the people you know and come in contact with, to simply say — “So, how is life treating you today?” or “How’s it going?” — And after they’ve responded with the usual “Pretty well… and Yourself?”, you respond by telling them how your day is really going, and then ONE CASUAL SENTENCE about how YOU are progressing today towards achieving YOUR dreams in life — then a segue into what they might be passionate about.

For example — “Oh, things are going pretty well.  I’d rather be (   fill in the blank with what you’d rather be doing   )  but I’ll get there sooner or later.  How about yourself?  What would you rather be doing right now?”

You see, while it may not be socially acceptable to simply come out and ask someone what their passion in life might be, there are ways to go about it that will acheive the same result, and make you seem friendlier and more inviting in the process, and not so much like an escaped mental patient.  It’s all in the delivery.

With that said… give it a try and see how it works for you!  — At the very least, it should be FUN… and the results might be quite informative, and possibly beneficial, in helping you to achieve the ultimate successes that you seek in life.

TRAVEL OFTEN.  GETTING LOST WILL HELP YOU FIND YOURSELF…  This too is an intriguing proposition, isn’t it?  There is just something about the idea of being able to travel to exotic destinations, leave the Rat Race behind (work, bills, family responsibilities, etc.), and just RELAX and HAVE SOME FUN for a change!  I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO TRAVEL OFTEN!  It’s one of my dreams in life that drives me!

Traveling — however — can be a very expensive proposition.  Even a weekend jaunt can cost you a week’s pay or more, in this day and age.  Therefore — while I would advise you to TRAVEL AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN — I would never advise you to spend more on TRAVEL than you can afford.  Doing so will only result in a more complicated home life, that you will feel EVEN MORE COMPELLED TO ESCAPE FROM!  It can become like an ADDICTION that sends you spiraling out of control, both financially and emotionally!

So, if you have the financial means to travel often — by all means — travel often.  But if you don’t — maybe taking some time to take in a movie… go to dinner… maybe go dancing… to a swap meet… to an art gallery, museum, or zoo… to an auction or flea market… or to a comedy club or theater performance… — Maybe something like that will be enough to help you in occassionally “Getting Lost” and finding your center of balance.  — A weekend camping trip with friends… hitting the open road on a bicycle or motorcycle… hiking in the woods or wilderness — these are some other (even less expensive) things that you can do to “Get Lost and Find Yourself.”

The point (I think) is to occassionally do something DIFFERENT.  — Something that is outside of the boundaries of what you would consider doing in your normal everyday life.  — Something that will allow you to experience new things… meet new people… and expand your view of “LIFE and the World Around You”.   Find some activities like that, and infuse them into your busy schedule often… and you will be well on your way to becoming a true “Man” or “Woman” of the world.

SOME OPPORTUNITIES ONLY COME ONCE, SEIZE THEM…  Yes, but remember… successful people PREPARE themselves for the kinds of opportunities they want, then put themselves in an environment where those opportunities might make themselves available.  So, don’t just sit around waiting for some OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME to find you, because it only very rarely happens that way.

Finding opportunities is a lot like going fishing.  You’re not going to be very successful at landing a BIG FISH if you just go down to the river, without the right gear and supplies, and without knowing where the BIG FISH swim and feed.  You’ve got to prepare yourself for the opportunity, if you’re going to land that big fish when it swims into range.

LIFE IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE YOU MEET, AND THE THINGS YOU CREATE WITH THEM.  SO GO OUT AND START CREATING…

Life is about whatever you truly want it to be about.

As far as creativity goes, we all create things constantly, without even realizing that were doing it.  We create circumstances… we create relationships… we create children… we create families… we create emotions and bonds with other people… we create reputations… and we create memories and experiences, among other things.  — We create LIFE as we know it.  — However, I’m not too sure that this is what the authors of the sign meant to infer.  — Maybe… Maybe not.

But, when I think about CREATIVITY in general, I think about it from the artistic viewpoint of creating THINGS, that I (and others) might enjoy, or that we might emotionally be moved by, or that might help us collectively in some way.

— THINGS that add color to our lives, and to the world — like Art… Music… Literary Works… etc. — as well as things that might help us in our daily lives — like Businesses… Homes… Income Opportunities… etc.  — And so, from that particular viewpoint… I must admit that as a creative artist — on the surface — this statement doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.  — Because, while creative people can definitely collaborate together on projects, creative juices work differently in each creative person, and so each person will be driven by their own unique vision for a particular project.

For example: You could assemble a dozen artistic painters and say “I want you to paint me a picture of a boat in a harbor”, and what you will get is twelve different pictures of a boat in a harbor.  Twelve unique visions and artistic representations of those twelve visions.  None of which will be wrong… All of which will stand alone, and exude some level of emotion and artistic excellence… And all of which will be deemed the “Best of the Bunch” by someone, based on their unique personal experiences, perceptions, and connections, to each work.

Likewise, in creating a web-based business, you could assemble a dozen web development entrepreneurs and say “I want you to create and launch a website, business plan, and business, that will focus on making it “Easier… More Enjoyable… and Much More FUN and EXCITING, for People Everywhere… to “Explore Life and the World Around Them”, through the World of Magazines, Periodicals, and Media Online.”  (By the way — this is my own business project — The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB — check it out at www.mag-netmediahub.com).  — In the end, what you will get is twelve very different websites, and twelve very different business plans, and twelve very different businesses… with varying levels of propensity for the mission at hand, and varying chances of success within the marketplace.  None of which will be wrong… All of which will stand alone, and exude some level of web design and concept and business excellence… And all of which will be deemed the “Best of the Bunch” by someone, based on their unique personal experiences, perceptions, and connections, to each website and business.

So, what exactly am I getting at?  — Creating THINGS like artistic works… businesses… websites… income opportunities… etc… can only be created (ultimately) around a single person’s creative vision for a project.  And, if it is a team project, or a project that requires a team approach — that means that the majority of the team’s participants are going to have to sacrifice certain parts of their “personal visions” for the project, and make concessions on things that they feel might be very important to the project.  — Which IS NOT something that most talented and creative artists and experts, are going to be all that thrilled about doing, for very long.

— So yes — You can hire or ally yourself with people who have various skills and experience to help you in bringing YOUR vision to life, and you can even accept their input, advice, and workmanship, and integrate those things into YOUR vision… — And, of course… you can collaborate on the projects of others…  — However — every collaboration requires a single leader.  — Someone who will safegaurd the integrity of the ONE VISION (almost always theirs), around which, their project revolves.

So, if you want to create something that you think will be really cool… get down to business and start creating it.  — And if the thing you want to create will require a team of people working on it, to breathe life into it… then start telling people (especially potential contributors) about your idea, and what you’d like to do.  — Just know that this means that team members and project participants will come and go, because artistic and creative people do not like to compromise on their visions…  You must simply be willing to accept that, and keep moving on towards achieving YOUR ultimate vision for YOUR creative projects, whatever they might be.  — And that means “going it alone” if need be.

LIVE YOUR DREAM AND SHARE YOUR PASSION…  Living your dream is often easier “said” than “done”, but you must at least “TRY” — because through the effort of trying, comes the only chance you will ever have of attaining it.  So, give it your best shot…  — Leave no room for regrets… — And Yes — SHARE YOUR PASSION for EVERYTHING that you’re passionate about — every chance you get.

LIFE IS SHORT…  Yes, life is short.  As I look back over the past 49 years of my life, I can’t be more amazed at how fast the time has passed.  It seems like only yesterday, that I was still just a teenager in high school, with my whole life ahead of me.  — In fact, even though I’m older… fatter… grayer… and much more responsible than I was in my youth — I’m still just a kid at heart. — And I suspect that this is the same for you.

— I suspect that we ALL see LIFE and the world around us, through the eyes and minds of the children that we once were — for our entire lives…  — Except that as we grow older and older, we have many years of accumulated knowledge and experience (wisdom) — honed by many bouts of trial and error — to help guide us on our way.

————————————————————————————————————————————————

So, that’s the end of the statements layed out on the sign above… but what would I add to it?

LEARN TO COMFORTABLY ACCEPT THE FACT OF YOUR OWN MORTALITY… None of us “gets out of life alive”… We will ALL perish from this Earth someday, and leave it to future generations of human beings and family members, to carry on without us.

During my youth, I — probably like you — spent the occassional moment worrying about death, and what would happen to ME… AFTER I died.  And so, I — like probably many of you — studied about the many religious beliefs in the world, in my quest to find the answers that would calm my fears about death.

Without saying here, exactly what I personally decided on the subject… I eventually found the comfort I was seeking, and when I did — a new found “Freedom from Fear” enveloped me, and I became more connected to life and the world around me, than I could have ever possibly imagined.  —Every moment in life was more beautiful!  —  Every person I met was more likeable!  — Every negative situation in life was more bearable!  — Everything in life that I had taken for granted, was more appreciated!

While I might talk more about my research into life and death, and my acquired beliefs — in later posts — I can only say here, that overcoming your fear and anxiety about your ultimate demise is imperitive, before you can achieve the ultimate level of happiness in your life.  — So, actively contemplate it…  research it… and come to whatever conclusions you come to.  — Know, however — and take comfort in the fact, that — in the end — like a moth becoming a butterfly — no matter what you end up believing in… death is not the end of your life.  — It is merely a transition… — A new beginning.

DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU… Be respectful towards other people.  Be respectful of their feelings… of their rights… and of their property (to name a few).  Your life will become much happier, and you will be surrounded by friends and goodwill, when you live your life by these words of wisdom.

BE RESPECTFUL OF OTHERS, AND DEMAND RESPECT IN RETURN… This goes hand in hand with the “Do Unto Others” statement above, but takes it to a different level.

What I am going to tell you, goes against what conventional society and religious doctrine has promoted for centuries, so take it for what it’s worth.  — Just know that it has served me well, all of my life… and that it is at the core of what has fueled my self confidence, throughout my entire existence.

When someone that you know disrespects you, you cannot let them get away with it.  Because, when you let them get away with it once, you are teaching them that they can get away with it again… and so, they WILL. — In one way or another — and in possibly an even more aggregious way — they WILL disrespect you again.

Therefore, when someone you know disrespects you — after you have been nothing but respectful towards them — call them out on it.  — Don’t turn the other cheek. —  Tell them that you don’t appreciate the way that they have talked to you, or treated you, and that you will not tolerate being disrespected like that.  Write them off of your “friends” list, and have nothing further to do with them, until they apologize and make amends (which means giving you something, or doing something for you, as compensation) for their actions.

Living your life according to this principle, minimizes the amount of negative emotions and circumstances that you will ultimately have to endure and deal with, in your life… and makes those who are prone to being disrespectful of others, to be more respectful of YOU, in the future.

WARNING! — This only applies to people you know, that you know are not INSANE!  — If a stranger, or a possibly insane person, is disrespectful towards you… get away from them as quickly as you can, without appearing like weak prey to a predator!  — With strangers and insane people, there’s no telling what might prompt them to physical violence and result in them assaulting you, when you attempt to stand up to their disrespectful and often boorish behavior.  With some people — it’s better to be smart enough to avoid a possibly violent confrontation, and just be safe… than to be right and respected by someone who isn’t even really a part of your life.

Last but not least…

SPREAD THE LOVE… (and I don’t mean physically)… — Be kind to everyone you meet.  — Extend your hand of friendship to anyone who truly desires it… — Lend a helping hand when needed or when asked for, in any way that you possibly can… — Teach others to do the same, by providing them with a good example to follow… — Live a life that promotes love and harmony amongst the people of the Earth.

— Every man, woman, and child on the Earth, really is your Brother or Sister in Life… because we all come from the same well-spring of LIFE, and we all share the same LIFE SPARK that powers our bodies, and is at the core of our souls.  GOD (or whatever you want to call our creator, and the source of our lives) is INSIDE of every person, and every other life form.  So please, keep that in mind as you go about your busy life in the world, and SPREAD THE LOVE OF LIFE with everyone you meet.

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB: A Focus On Media In All Of It’s Forms   5 comments

by Michael L. Brown – Founder, CEO, and Director of Development – MAG-NET MEDIA HUB LTD

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB “Your Gateway to the World of Magazines, Periodicals and Media Online…”

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB“Your Gateway to the World of Magazines, Periodicals, and Media Online”

As we begin venturing out ourselves into the World of Blogging with The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB BLOGSPOT, I’m sure that many bloggers and blog enthusiasts alike, may feel at least a tiny little hint of angst towards the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, for holding Print-Based Magazines out as being the “Premier Media Form of Choice” on our Hubsite.  — The Primary Media Form that takes center stage on the Hub, around which all other media types revolve, in our little corner of the internet universe.

As the Founder, CEO, and Director of Development for the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB, and the person who is solely responsible for the vision and direction that the Hub is taking in its development — I felt that not only was a clarification of our mission in order, but that an explanation of our approach was somewhat necessary as well — in order to put the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB into the proper context for all of our fellow bloggers.

For starters… Yes, we love magazines!  — And since the days, years, decades, and centuries — before the rise of the internet — the print-based magazines of the offline world, have played a defining role in the collection, analysis, and dissemination, of news and information to the masses.  I think this is something to which we can all agree.

This does not, however, take away from the important role that blogs, bloggers, and blogging, have likewise played, and continue to play, in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of news and information — since the rise of the internet… — or in blogging’s rise to becoming a world-reknowned media format in its own right.  In my opinion, both magazine publishing and blogging — as two slightly different, but very much related media formats — are both vital pieces of the evolving media puzzle, that serve society’s informational and news dissemination needs, in this day and age.

Politically speaking — where a great many of the traditional media news outlets (of which print-based magazines are a large part) seem to have declared sides (from an editorial standpoint), and allied themselves politically with either the liberal left, conservative right, or independant middle — blogging, bloggers, and independent blogs, have become an important part of today’s media mix, because they allow many more less powerful, yet competing voices, to enter the fray… and help to bring to light a more realistic portrayal of what the general population believes in, and wants, for their society.  This is very important, and is a clear indication of blogging’s importance within today’s media mix.

From an informational standpoint — blogging allows independent experts in their fields to disseminate their knowledge, insights, opinions, and concerns regarding developments within their fields, directly to the masses on the internet, and helps society in identifying who the true experts are in each field — whether they write for an established media outlet, write independently as a blogger, or simply post comments in response to articles or blogs on the internet.  This highly interactive approach to information dissemination and debate, that the internet makes possible, makes these times what they are — which is simply the best time… and the best environment… that we could possibly imagine… when it comes to sharing knowledge with one another, as an intellectual species.

From an artistic standpoint — blogs allow the average internet user, who has something to say… a story to tell… or something of possible interest to express to the world — the opportunity to put it out there, and publish it on the web — and share it with the entire world!  — And they can do it however THEY want!  — There’s no copy editors telling people HOW their stories MUST be written, in order to fit within a specific amount of space…  — There’s no more editing because a publisher may not like what someone has to say… — There’s a FREEDOM in blogging, that the internet provides, that unlike any other media format, allows anyone the opportunity to tell their story in the precise way that they want to tell it  — without interference.  — And that is GREAT, GREAT STUFF!  —  A real testimony to how far the internet has brought us, in communicating with one another in this day and age!

With all of this said, and with my obvious belief that blogs, bloggers, and blogging, are such an important part of today’s media puzzle — why then do I hold print-based magazines out as being the pinnacle of the media mix, and the center around which all other media forms revolve, on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB?  — Because  — among other things — when it comes to disseminating news and information, I look at print-based magazines as being the media format that has set the standard for all in-depth, category-based periodicals.

Print-based magazines have been with us for a long time.  The first one — “The Gentleman’s Magazine”was first published in London in 1731 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magazine).   And while newspapers go back even further (1605 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspaper), the magazine format was the first periodical format that allowed writers to provide extensive and in-depth analysis of the news and events, and scientific and technological developments, of their times — and disseminate that formative thinking to those who desired to seek it out.

How can anyone deny the roles that print-based magazines like Time, LIFE, Good Housekeeping, Reader’s Digest, The Saturday Evening Post, National Geographic, McCall’s, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Scientific American, The Atlanticand a whole slew of others — have played in driving intellectual thinking, and the tone of public discourse in America, throughout the 20th Century?

How can anyone brush aside the affect that print-based magazines like Rolling Stone, Hot Rod, Playboy, Cosmopolitan, GQ, Vogue, The New Yorker, Fortune, Newsweek, Esquire, Ebony, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated — and a whole slew of others — have had in mixing the melting pot that is now America, and the rest of the world?

So, why specifically are print-based magazines the center of the media universe on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB?

— Well, first of all — I don’t know about you, but… I LOVE THE COVERS!

— I mean, the majority of magazine publishers put so much time and effort into their magazine covers…  They really create some wonderful and compelling art.  — Which is something that I really wanted to infuse dramatically into the media search experience here on the Hub. — And so I really hope to one day soon, be able to bring you ALL OF IT… right there… on The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB.

But, what other reasons do I have for putting print-based magazines on a pedestal on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB?

Because of History… and Heritage

Because of the roles that print-based magazines have played in the past — in the coffee houses, and in the beauty parlors and barber shops… and in the trenches and easy chairs, of countless millions of people around the globe, over the past 100 hundred years or so… — And of the continued roles that magazines play in the media mix today, as well as the roles that they want to continue to play, in society in the future…

Because of their tenacity in getting their stories out, that drives them to keep publishing print-based media, and going through the added hassle of distributing their publications to subscribers and newsstands… just to put a physical product of thought, insights, and experience, into the hands of people who desire them… — Amongst other media formats, this alone warrants putting them into a class unto themselves, and holding them out as exceptional, amongst other media formats that are available on the World Wide Web.

Because of their presence in both the offline world, and the online world… — A presence that adds great color to the world, and to our lives… — The affect that print-based magazines have on the world is undeniable!  — As we pass by magazine racks on the street, and in the stores…   — As we pass by a friend’s coffee table, and get a glimpse of what defines them as a person, because of what they’re interested in reading about. — Illustrated by the types of print-based magazines that they buy and subscribe to.  — The fact that these print-based media brands have such a far-reaching impact in the offline world, sets them distinctly above internet-only media brands — or at least should — in my opinion.

— And last but not least

— Because print-based magazines and their media brands, seem to have largely gotten lost in the shuffle — so to speak — as the world has moved more and more to the information super-highway (the internet), for their news and information needs.

The impetus for my decision to begin building the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB in the first place, was because I discovered first-hand that it could often be quite difficult to find the official websites of magazines, on the algorithmic search engines of the information super-highway (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) .  — And, I just felt… that there needed to be an off-ramp of sorts put in place to this exceptionally influential media channel — ( “The World of Magazines”  ) — that would make it easier for people using the internet, to find the official websites of print-based magazines, as well as  other specific media types and formats online.

I guess that what I was really yearning for, and what I’ve tried to encapsulate in the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB… was better organization on the internet.  — As well as an interface that was more colorfuland compelling… and full of art…  than the simple text-based results pages of the algorithmic search engines…

— An interface that I (as in I myself) — and hopefully others — would find more visually appealing and stimulating… as we sought out the news, and information, and resources, that we wanted to explore on the internet for ourselves, on a day-to-day basis… (Yes, I’ve been building it to suit myself predominately, but I think (hope) you’re going to love it as well).

— An interface that would make it easier to find and access ALL of the most relevant web-based resources available, on a category-by-category, and format-by-format basis… so that no matter what category of interest you might be interested in surfing or exploring — and no matter which media format you might prefer to explore, at any given moment — you could do it easier and more enjoyably — from any category page of the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB!

— An interface that would make it “Easier… More Enjoyable… and Much More FUN and EXCITING, for People Everywhere… to “Explore Life and the World Around Us”… through the World of Magazines, Periodicals, and Media Online.” — As well as do, whatever it is that you might like to do… on the internet!

But, don’t get me wrong — I think that Google, and Yahoo!, and Bing, and the rest of the algorithmic search engines, have done some truly wondrous and highly admirable work, in creating search tools that help people in navigating the vast expanses of the internet.  However, they’re not perfect.  — People still run into problems finding specific websites that they know must exist… and the official websites of magazines are a prime example of this.

The algorithms used by the algorithmic search engines sometimes simply get you into the ballpark, but leave you digging through multiple results pages of magazine subscription sales sites… articles and news about the magazine, or certain staff members… as well as highly suspect “knock-off sites”, that somehow have higher page rankings than the official websites of the actual magazines themselves!

It can be quite frustrating — to say the least! — and as I said, that was the whole reason I began building the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB in the first place!  — To provide a resource that would “bridge the gap” between the algorithmic search engines and the official websites of magazines, and provide a place where one could go to specifically seek out the official websites of magazines alphabetically or by category of interest.  — It was only later — during development — that the concept of MAG-NET morphed into a directory-based search engine and media portal called The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB… — One that includes ALL forms of media, and seeks to provide a “Web Search Experience” that is second to none.

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is a “Grand Vision” that has a long way to go, but we will eventually get there.

It starts with magazines… and centers around magazines — but it will eventually include every media format imagineable — including blogs!

(The proposed list currently includes: Print-Based Magazines, Online Magazines, Newspapers, Newsletters, Audio-Based Media, Video-Based Media, Television, Radio, Blogs, Movies and Films, Music, Art, Photography,Video Games, Media Apparel, and more!  — However — while I wish we were further along than we actually are — we’re currently only set up to offer you access to Print-Based Magazines in the signature way that we’ll be linking to media sites online… — And even then — it’s without all of the cover art that will truly make the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB the web search experience that we envision, and can’t wait to show you — but can’t make available until we’ve gotten permission from all of the magazines publishers, to do so. (— Like I said… We’ve got a long way to go!))

If you’re a Magazine Publisher:“Become Part of the Experience!  — come and get your publication registered and properly set up  on the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB!  — “FREE listing options are available to ALL legitimate print-based magazines, and are a great way to promote your magazine titles, and make them openly available and easier to find on the internet!  So, don’t delay… Do it today!

— And if you’re simply someone who likes to surf, and explore, and do research on the web: Come on by and see what the MAG-NET MEDIA HUB might have to offer you!

The MAG-NET MEDIA HUB is FREE… OPEN TO THE PUBLIC… and FIT FOR ALL AGES!  So, please… feel free to stop by and check us out at http://www.mag-netmediahub.com.  We’d love to have you pay us a visit!
